Juanita grew up in Los Angeles, California and got involved in local politics in high school. She canvassed neighborhoods on "get out the vote" campaigns and attended political conventions and meetings. She also served on local boards as a youth representative. Juanita's interests led to a degree in political science from the University of Southern California, and law seemed the natural outlet for her energies. After graduating from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., Juanita returned home to Southern California and started her legal career.

At the outset, Juanita ran her own probate and estate planning law office assisting families dealing with the loss of a loved one and helping her clients with all the legal issues surrounding probate and estate planning laws. In the early years of her practice, Juanita was also involved in the area of family law, including divorce, legal separation and custody and visitation issues.

Through hard work and dedication, Juanita’s legal skills grew and so did her experience. Juanita’s legal resume expanded as she learned criminal defense and civil litigation while working with her peers and fellow attorneys.

After the downturn in the economy, Juanita’s focus was turned to helping homeowners avoid foreclosure through bankruptcy and foreclosure defense litigation. Her work was instrumental where homeowners were victims of misconduct by banks and predatory lenders. Juanita’s research and motion work were influential in case settlements where homeowners were given a second chance and as a result were able to avoid foreclosure. Juanita’s progression in this area of law has led her to file cases in both state and federal courts. Juanita has also represented homeowners facing eviction after foreclosure including appellate work.
